Easter Sunday - I thought I would take a change from commenting on the Gospel passage set for today and instead review the 'cultural milieu' of Easter in New Zealand, looking at the origins of Easter eggs, hot cross buns and bunny rabbits. This is an inheritance of earlier pagan rituals that preceded Christianity. None of this takes away from the fact that Jesus rose from the dead - this is the cornerstone of Christianity, and the Christian faith stands or falls on this event.
